Law Enforcement Torch Run/Walk Set for Sept. 14

August 25, 2017 – Runners/walkers of all skill levels are invited to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, in Midland. The event is not a race, but a leisurely run/walk to bring people together for the purpose of raising funds and awareness for the over 20,000 Special Olympics athletes in Michigan.

The Torch Run will start at the Midland Law Enforcement Center (LEC), 2727 Rodd Street.  This year there will again be two routes: a 3.4-mile route for runners and a 2.5-mile route for walkers, with the finish line for both being inside Dow Diamond.  Both the walkers and runners will leave the LEC at 5:30 p.m.

An added attraction to this year’s run is the collaboration with the Main Street Glow (Balloonfest Kickoff).  The runners/walkers will travel down Larkin Street as the flames from the burners light up the sky around them!

Registration for the run/walk is required, and participants who register with a $25 donation will receive a dri-fit shirt.  Register online at https://www.firstgiving.com/miletr/midland17 or pick up a registration form at the LEC.  Same-day registrations are available, and registrations will be taken any time prior to the start of the run/walk.

The Midland Law Enforcement Torch Run has the distinct honor of being the top community run in the state in terms of participation and funds raised the last four years running. “It was close, but last year we earned the top spot again and we need to keep this marathon of wins going,” said Deputy Chief and run director Rodney Roten.

For questions or further information on the Midland run, contact Deputy Chief Roten at rroten@midland-mi.org or at 989-839-4703 or 989-600-0141.
