At City Forest we are always working to make sure our attractions are up and running but weather isn't always cooperative. Please call our Rainout Line at 989-399-0506 or check online to confirm your favorite attractions are available.
Spring, Summer and Fall at City Forest
In the months without snow, City Forest is a mecca for bikers, runners, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are two trail systems within the forest; a mountain biking trail and a walking/hiking trail that is also used by equestrians.
Winter at City Forest
In the winter, City Forest transforms into the region's premier winter recreation destination. The forest offers a variety of winter recreation opportunities. City Forest features Michigan’s only hand-packed toboggan runs. Each at a tenth of a mile long, these 4 snow-packed, iced and elevated toboggan runs are a fan favorite. (Please check availability on the toboggan runs as they are very weather dependent). City Forest maintains 7.5 miles of groomed trails (including a .7 mile lighted loop) for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Also, there are 13 miles of mountain biking trails that are open year-round. A large rink in front of the Chalet is ideal for ice skaters of all levels. Our groomed and lighted sledding hill is available for sledding until late evening. Use your own sled! When it’s time to warm up, the City Forest Chalet is the best place for cocoa and a bird's eye view of the fun! You can bring your own sleds, skates and skis or rent ours when the Chalet is open! There is no charge to enter the park.
Contrary to popular belief, snowmaking at City Forest does not happen when it’s cold outside. In order for staff to create snow with a snowmaker, the temps should be somewhere between 15 and 17 degrees and the humidity has to be just right. When we are able to make snow, we will make it for as long as possible, even overnight. The snow maker will create large whales and staff will push these whales up the hill for use.
