January 27, 2017 – City Manager Jon Lynch has announced his resignation from the City of Midland effective April 30, 2017.
Lynch, who joined the City of Midland as Director of Planning and Community Development in 2000 and served as the City Manager since 2006, has accepted the position of president with local company, Three Rivers Corporation. He will begin his duties in that capacity beginning in May.
Significant achievements during his tenure include resolution of two major property tax valuation appeals cases, preservation of public services and an S&P AA bond rating during a 17% reduction of general fund revenue in a single year, and creation of the Midland Citizens Academy.
In 2005 Jon was named Leader of the Year by the Leadership Midland Alumni Association, in 2014 he received the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Award and in 2016 was named Outstanding Community Administrator by the Michigan Association of Planning.
Dan Kozakiewicz, current President of Three Rivers Corporation noted, “Jon’s belief that at the heart of every opportunity lies people, convinced us he was the right choice for Three Rivers. Jon has a knack for putting himself in the shoes of others and addressing their needs and interests, not his own. He is a master at pulling people together for a common cause, bringing out the best in them and giving them the confidence to succeed.”
“Jon has done an exemplary job leading our city. He is respected by the members of council, his staff and the citizens of Midland. Three Rivers is very fortunate to have him as their next president,” said Midland Mayor Maureen Donker.
“Midland is a wonderful community and my family and I are excited about this new chapter of our lives in the region. I am so grateful for the hard work, commitment, and friendships of the City staff, City Council, and citizens,” said Lynch. “I have been fortunate to work for, and with, truly amazing people who put the interests and welfare of the community first.”
Plans are currently being developed by City Council to begin the search for a new City Manager. Questions can be directed to the City Manager’s Office at 989-837-3301
