April 13, 2017 – Underground infrastructure along Main Street in Downtown Midland will see upgrades beginning Monday, April 17 as crews will line the sanitary sewer from Gordon Street to the Poseyville Road Bridge. The project, which involves placing an epoxied material liner inside the sewer pipes, is expected to be completed by May 15, 2017 weather permitting.
Work will be completed in sections to minimize disruption and delays. Motorists traveling on Main Street should expect minor traffic delays and temporary lane closures in the section being lined through the duration of the project; however, the road may be closed and traffic rerouted for short periods of time. Downtown businesses should experience service interruptions only on the day their area is to be lined. Main Street businesses should watch for additional information from the Wastewater Department as to service interruptions and instructions on how to test their output to ensure proper working conditions following the upgrades.
The sanitary sewer lining will extend the life of the lined pipes for at least 50 years and increase sewer flow. The process used to complete the work is minimally disruptive and less expensive than traditional open excavation methods.
