May 12, 2017 – Citizens are invited to attend a ceremony honoring peace officers currently serving their communities and those who lost their lives while safeguarding the public.
The ceremony is being held in conjunction with Peace Officers Memorial Day on Monday, May 15, a national day of recognition of law enforcement officials. The event starts at 4 p.m. at the Midland Law Enforcement Center.
“Peace Officers Memorial Day is a nationally recognized celebration of the men and women who protect their communities and uphold citizens’ constitutional rights,” said Midland County Sheriff Scott Stephenson. “We are very fortunate to live in the community of Midland, where peace officers are appreciated for their dedication and service.”
“Peace officers exemplify dedication and selflessness,” added Midland Police Chief Cliff Block. “The men and women who currently serve and those who have gone before us deserve our gratitude for preserving the peace and protecting our fellow citizens.”
The event will include Chief Block and Sheriff Stephenson as speakers, plus members of the local Search and Rescue Dive Team, K-9 unit, and Midland Police Department Honor Guard. Specialty vehicles and equipment utilized in law enforcement will also be on hand for public viewing.
