[ARCHIVED] Residents Reminded to Check Water-Driven Sump Pumps

June 30, 2017 – As last week’s flooding event continues to recede, the City reminds residents to check their water-driven sump pumps to avoid an increase in water usage.

Water-driven back-up pumps utilize municipal water resources to drive water out. After a significant water event, the float on these pumps can sometimes become stuck “on” and will continue to use water, resulting in unusually high water bills.

Residents who believe their back-up sump pump may have been stuck should contact the City’s Water Department at 989-837-3341 with the current reading on their water meter.

For updated flood-related information and other City services updates, visit the City website at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov or follow the City of Midland’s Facebook page.
