[ARCHIVED] MPD to Host Final 2017 "Cone with a Cop" August 24

August 18, 2017 - On Thursday, August 24, starting at 5:00 p.m., community members and officers from the Midland Police Department (MPD) will come together for the third and final “Cone with a Cop” event of the summer. This event helps to build relationships between MPD officers and community members and is open to the public.

The event will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pizza Sam’s, 102 W. Main Street, in Midland and will be held in conjunction with Downtown Midland’s “Street Performer Series”, which will include musicians, magicians, jugglers, face painters, balloon artists, and more. Ashman Street will be closed between Larkin and Main from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. to provide a safe area for children to check out several police cars and Midland SWAT bus.

Just as with MPD’s “Coffee with a Cop” events, “Cone with a Cop” provides a great opportunity for community members to meet with officers, ask questions, and learn more about the department’s work in the City of Midland while enjoying summer treats. In addition to partnering with Pizza Sam’s, Steve Witt - State Farm Insurance Agent will be on hand with a drawing for two backpacks filled with school supplies for this great event.

This community event will be geared towards younger children; however, MPD encourages residents of all ages to stop by, ask questions, bring concerns, and simply get to know their officers.
“Coffee with a Cop”/“Cone with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the country as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
