September 5, 2017 - The Midland Police Department would like to remind you that Midland Public Schools are back in session beginning today, Tuesday, September 5th. Children will once again be walking, riding their bicycles, or taking the bus to school. The Midland Police Department will be focusing on school zone violations, which also includes school bus violations and crossing guard violations.
Did you know: if a driver of a motor vehicle fails to stop when a school crossing guard is in a school crossing and is holding a stop sign in an upright position visible to approaching vehicular traffic, you could be guilty of a misdemeanor? According to Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL):
MCL 257.613d Failure to stop for school crossing guard holding stop sign in upright position; misdemeanor; presumption.
Sec. 613d.
(1) A driver of a motor vehicle who fails to stop when a school crossing guard is in a school crossing and is holding a stop sign in an upright position visible to approaching vehicular traffic is guilty of a misdemeanor.
MPD will be enforcing any traffic violations specifically within the school zones throughout the City of Midland. This traffic campaign will start Tuesday, September 5th and run through the end of September. Please make safe driving your priority.
