[ARCHIVED] City to Perform Township Water Main Flushing

September 7, 2017 – On Monday, September 11, 2017 City of Midland Water Distribution crews will begin a water main flushing program in the townships that it serves. Fire hydrants throughout the townships of Homer, Larkin, Midland and Mills will be systematically opened to clean and refresh the drinking water distribution system.

Water main flushing will begin in Midland and Homer Townships south of Isabella Rd, then proceed north of Isabella Rd. Once Midland and Homer Townships are complete, crews will move into Larkin Township, then conclude with Mills Township. The entire process should be completed in approximately 5 weeks.

Water main flushing sometimes results in discolored water.  While not harmful, tap water may appear orange in color for 5 to 15 minutes.  Residents should avoid doing laundry while their water is discolored.

The City’s flushing program helps ensure a high level of water quality by preventing corrosion and maintaining a proper disinfection residual.  Information regarding daily flushing activities will be posted on the City’s website at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov.

Contact the Water Distribution Office at 989-837-6950 with any questions.
