September 15, 2017 – National Good Neighbor Day is celebrated annually on September 28 – but this year, the City of Midland is taking it one step further. The week of September 24 through 30, 2017 has been proclaimed Midland Neighbor Week in the city, which encourages residents to “stop by, say hi” and get to know their neighbors.
The proclamation seeks to continue building on the immense community outpouring of support and kindness in the days and weeks following the flooding event in June 2017. During that time, neighbors from every part of Midland helped and supported one another. As City officials continue to look back and learn from this event, one thing that has been noticed is the importance of having a strong, connected community where people care about each other.
During this week, the City encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to promote neighboring in any way that’s comfortable for them. Participation comes in many forms: hosting a neighborhood gathering, performing a task or chore that helps a neighbor, or even introducing yourself to a new neighbor you’ve never met. Residents should celebrate this week in a way that promotes kindness and peace in the Midland community.
Residents can visit a new E-CityHall topic at http://bit.ly/neighborweek to share their neighborhood gatherings, find resources and tips for getting involved in Midland Neighbor Week, and get ideas on how to be a good neighbor all year round.
