October 5, 2017 – Fire Prevention Week in Midland is October 8-14. In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the Midland Fire Department will hold its annual Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 14 from 1-4 p.m.
The open house will be held at recently-remodeled Fire Station One, located at 816 E. Haley Street. During the event, the community is invited to enjoy refreshments, tour the fire station and view its equipment, learn how to plan for and practice fire drills, and view fire safety exhibits. A drawing for a children’s bicycle is planned for the event.
Also during Fire Prevention Week, the department will join forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association to focus on this year’s theme, “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” Having 2 ways out of each room is a vital part of a fire escape plan. The most important part is to practice your plan. All the members of the family should participate in escape planning so everyone knows the plan. As families grow and change, plans should be reviewed periodically to ensure they still meet your family’s needs.
