[ARCHIVED] Battle of the Books 2017-18 Kicks off November 11

November 3, 2017 – The Battle of the Books Kickoff of the 2017-2018 season will be held in the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Auditorium on Saturday, November 11. The kickoff features presentations by Battle Book Author, Robert Paul Weston. His wildly imaginative books include Zorgamazoo, The Creature Department and Gobbled by Ghorks. The twenty titles on the Battle list will be revealed at the end of the program.

Robert Paul Weston will speak at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  There will be an opportunity to meet the author at the book signing following the presentation. Barnes and Noble will be selling the author’s books, along with all of the books on the Battle list, after both of the programs.

Battle books will also be available for check out immediately after the 10 a.m. program in the temporary Youth Services Area. Battle books will be available for general checkout beginning Sunday, November 12. Books and booklists will not be available between programs.

Battle of the Books is a program designed to encourage and reward fourth and fifth grade readers. The program runs from kickoff in November through the final battle in early March. Participants read from a list of twenty books, and then compete in battles beginning in February over the books on the Battle list.  The team registration deadline is Tuesday, January 16.
