January 12, 2018 – As the beginning of the Karl B. Robertson (M-20) Bridge replacement project draws closer, the City of Midland reminds residents to plan ahead for upcoming trips on the rail trail systems near the bridge.

The Pere-Marquette Rail Trail will be closed under the M-20 Bridge throughout the duration of construction. Safety concerns, including the potential for falling debris and construction material and the proximity of large heavy equipment to the trail, have prompted the need for a closure. In addition, the Chippewassee Park Loop will have intermittent closures as construction activities warrant.

A signed detour route will be provided, which will instruct rail trail users to utilize Ashman and Main Streets to get around the closure. This detour will require users to cross M-20.

Construction on the M-20 Bridge is expected to begin in March 2018 and complete in Fall 2019.

Event organizers who have utilized this area in the past are encouraged to contact Midland Parks and Recreation at 989-837-6930 for information about using Emerson Park as an alternate location for their activities.

Periodic updates on the progress of the M-20 Bridge project will be shared on the City of Midland Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofmidlandmi and on Twitter at @CityofMidlandMI. For more information, contact City Engineering at 989-837-3348.

Residents are reminded that due to the nature of construction activities, the information provided above may change at any time. Should an issue arise that would change this schedule, the City will provide updates via the methods listed above.
