February 2, 2018 – Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to begin its Karl B. Robertson (M-20) Bridge replacement project on Monday, February 5.

Beginning Monday, February 5, one lane of M-20 will be closed from Buttles Street to Currie Parkway for several days as crews complete deck repairs on the eastbound side of the bridge to prepare for the construction project.

Beginning February 12, traffic across the bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction from Currie Parkway to Buttles Street and will be shifted to utilize only the eastbound side of the bridge. Left and right turns from Jerome Street/M20 onto Larkin and Main Streets will be restricted. A signed detour route will be provided for motorists wishing to access Downtown Midland.

Prior to construction, Main Street will be closed in both directions at Jerome Street/M-20 to allow for construction site preparation.

In addition, the Pere Marquette Rail Trail will be closed under the M-20 Bridge beginning February 12 through the duration of the project. The Chippewassee Park Loop will have intermittent closures as construction activities warrant. A signed detour route for the Rail Trail will be provided, which will instruct rail trail users to utilize Ashman and Main Streets to get around the closure. Electrical power will be shut off at Chippewassee Park and Trilogy Skate Park from February 12 through May 2018 to facilitate work by
Consumers Energy.

Once demolition and reconstruction of the westbound side of the bridge is completed in Fall 2018, traffic will be shifted to utilize the new side of the bridge while crews remove and reconstruct the eastbound side. Construction on the M-20 Bridge is expected to be completed in September 2019.

Periodic updates on the progress of the M-20 Bridge project will be shared on the City of Midland Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofmidlandmi and on Twitter at @CityofMidlandMI. For more information during the project, contact MDOT at 989-773-7756 ext. 303.
