[ARCHIVED] Motorists Reminded to Obey Traffic Signals, Laws in M-20 Work Zone

February 23, 2018 – With the M-20 Bridge reconstruction project officially underway, Midland Police Department would like to remind residents to obey all posted traffic signs and speed limits in the construction zone.

Left and right turns from Jerome Street/M-20 onto Larkin and Main Streets are prohibited through the duration of this project. A signed detour route is provided for motorists wishing to access Downtown Midland. These restrictions have been put in place both to protect workers’ safety and to ease traffic congestion during construction.

In addition, MPD reminds travelers to observe the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour in the work zone, which extends from Buttles Street to Currie Parkway. Motorists who are observed disregarding posted traffic signs or speeding in the construction zone will be ticketed.

Once reconstruction of the westbound side of the bridge is completed in fall 2018, traffic will be shifted to utilize the new side of the bridge while crews remove and reconstruct the eastbound side. Construction on the M-20 Bridge is expected to be completed in July 2019.

Periodic updates on the progress of the M-20 Bridge project will be shared on the City of Midland Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofmidlandmi and on Twitter at @CityofMidlandMI. For more information during the project, contact MDOT at 989-773-7756 ext. 303.
