[ARCHIVED] New Human Resources Director Named

July 18, 2014 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Carol A. Stone has been hired to serve as Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations, effective August 11, 2014.

Ms. Stone brings 34 years of human resources and city government experience to the position. Before joining the City of Midland, Ms. Stone worked three years as Administrative Services Manager for Huron-Clinton Metroparks in Brighton. Prior to that, she served for six years as Assistant City Manager for the City of Howell. Ms. Stone’s first municipal experience was with the City of Plymouth, serving as Administrative Services Director/Human Resource Director from 1980-2005.

The City’s new director has received professional certifications from the Society for Human Resource Management and International Public Management Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree in management and human resources administration from Madonna University.

“We conducted a rigorous search and interview process, finding that Carol’s skills and background make her particularly well suited for the position,” said City Manager Jon Lynch. “Her management style and outcome-focused, problem-solving experience in the arena of human resources and labor relations will be assets to the organization and will benefit our employees.”

Ms. Stone replaces former Director of Human Resources Paula Whittington, who retired in April after 27 years with the City.
