Grace A. Dow Library Awarded $2000 Grant for Library Operations

March 9, 2018 – The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library has announced its receipt of a $2,000 grant from The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation to be used for library operations. The Foundation began making this annual gift of $2,000 to the library in 1954 with a total of $128,000 given.

In 1936, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation was established by Mrs. Grace A. Dow in memory of her husband, Herbert H. Dow.  Mrs. Dow served on the Library Board for 42 years, advocating for continuous improvement of library services to the Midland community.

“The  Foundation  appreciates  the  Library’s  contributions  to  the  lives  and  minds  of Midland residents,” said Foundation President Mike Whiting. “We are pleased to offer this grant to assist the Library in continuing to provide its many programs and services to our community.”

“We appreciate that the Trustees of the Foundation share Mrs. Dow’s lifelong love of the Library and reaffirm the value of the Library to our community through their continued support,” said Library Director Melissa Barnard.

The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library is a service of the City of Midland. For more information on services and programs at the Library, please call 989-837-3430 or visit
