[ARCHIVED] Parking Reminders in the City

March 29, 2018 – With the Great Lakes Loons’ first home game set for April 5 and an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic likely to occur, the City of Midland would like to remind citizens of parking regulations in the City.

There is a multitude of public parking available for Loons’ games and other events at Dow Diamond:

  • Approximately 700 on-site parking spaces are available at the stadium.
  • In the downtown Midland area, which stretches from Ripley to Cronkright streets and from Ann to Buttles streets, there are nearly 3,000 parking spaces.  These spaces include the Larkin Street parking ramp and the Farmers Market public parking lot off of Ann Street.  Permit and time-limited parking will be enforced until 5 p.m. weekdays in the downtown area.
  • Businesses may make their parking lots available for event parking.
  • On-street parking is permitted on designated side streets near the stadium.

Parking is allowed in designated areas only, and certain rules apply:

  • Parking on the curb, sidewalk, outlawn area (between the sidewalk and curb), or in front of private or public driveways is not allowed.
  • Vehicles must not block or obstruct any public sidewalk or paved pathway.
  • Parking on lawns or any unimproved (grassy) surface is not allowed.
  • Motorists must refrain from parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, within 15 feet of an intersection, or on city park property.
  • Double parking is not allowed.
  • In order to park in a handicapped space, motorists must have a Secretary of State-issued tag or license plate that is visible on their vehicle.
  • Travel lanes and fire hydrants must be kept free from obstruction.
  • Parking on streets within the City of Midland is not allowed between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Signage indicating the availability of parking on private property may be no larger than 2’ x 2’ in size, and must be located outside of the public right-of-way. As a reminder, visitors and residents are asked to help keep Midland beautiful by putting litter in trash receptacles.

For questions about parking or littering within the City of Midland, please contact the Planning and Community Development Department at 989-837-3374.
