June 15, 2018 – After a nationwide search, the City of Midland has announced the appointment of Miriam Andrus as Library Director of the Grace A Dow Memorial Library.
Prior to this role, Andrus has served as Director of the Big Rapids Community Library since 2012, where she oversaw a variety of enrichment projects: management of a $1.1 million library renovation project; installation of free little libraries in Big Rapids; and, most recently, creation of a Seed Library and construction of the first literacy playground in Michigan. She has also served on several regional and statewide boards and commissions related to literacy, library operations, and quality of life initiatives.
Andrus possesses a Level 1 certification from the Library of Michigan and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Brigham Young University and a Master of Library Science from Clarion University.
“Miriam brings to Midland a passion for library services and a strong commitment to community collaboration and partnerships,” said City Manager Brad Kaye. “We are excited to have her leading the Library and look forward to her contributions to one of our beloved community staples.”
Andrus will start her new position on Monday, June 25. She replaces Library Director Melissa Barnard, who is retiring on Friday, June 29 after 18 years with the City.
