
July 12, 2018 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Midland Fire Department Chief Chris Coughlin has been named the 2018 Fire Chief of the Year by the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs (MACF).
The honor was awarded at the MACF Summer Leadership Conference held July 10-12 in Boyne Falls, Michigan.
“This statewide honor is a true testament to Chief Coughlin’s dedication to his role in public safety, both for the residents of Midland and the people of Michigan,” said Midland City Manager Brad Kaye. “We are proud of his receiving this award and are grateful for his continued service to our community.”
Chief Chris Coughlin joined the Midland Fire Department in 2002 as a fire inspector, was appointed Fire Marshal in 2006, and was promoted to Chief in 2012. Chief Coughlin is a Certified Fire Inspector 1 by the National Fire Protection Association, a Michigan State Police Unified Incident Command System instructor, an aircraft firefighting and rescue instructor, and is a certified emergency medical technician (EMT). He has completed the University of Maryland - Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute’s National Fire Service Staff and Command course and currently serves on the Legislative Committee for the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs.
