[ARCHIVED] Meet the Presidents at the Library

September 14, 2018 – This fall, leave the textbooks behind and experience history as the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library presents the fall lecture series “Meet the Presidents.” Through a mixture of first-person portrayals and lectures, attendees will explore the lives and legacies of four of America’s most notable presidents and learn how each faced the leadership challenges of their time in what is arguably the hardest job in the world.

Saturday, September 22 – Watch a special first-person presentation on Theodore and Edith Roosevelt, complete with period costuming, a big dose of Teddy’s larger-than-life personality, and the subtle influence of Mrs. Roosevelt.

Thursday, October 18 – Explore the personal and political struggles Lyndon B. Johnson faced on civil rights issues with Dr. Kenneth Jolly from Saginaw Valley State University in this lecture-styled presentation.

Thursday, November 15 – Fred Priebe, an Abraham Lincoln impersonator from Belleville, Michigan, will provide a historically accurate and entertaining first-person presentation highlighting Lincoln’s evolving beliefs and leadership qualities on “The Road to the Civil War.”

Thursday, December 6 - Dr. Mitchell Hall from Central Michigan University will help guests understand Richard Nixon and his doomed presidency. Whether he was a crook or a victim of the times, he most certainly was a complicated figure who was both brilliant and tragically flawed

All presentations are free and open to all ages. They will be held at 7 p.m. in the Library Auditorium. For more information on the “Meet the Presidents” lecture series, please contact the Reference Desk at 837-3449 or visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/library. The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library is located at 1710 W. St. Andrews Rd. The Library is a service of the City of Midland.
