October 5, 2018 – Fire Prevention Week in Midland is October 7-13. In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the Midland Fire Department will hold its annual Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 13 from 1-4 p.m.
The open house will be held at Fire Station One, located at 816 E. Haley Street. During the event, the community is invited to enjoy refreshments, tour the fire station and view its equipment, learn how to plan for and practice fire drills, and view fire safety exhibits. A drawing for a children’s bicycle is planned for the event.
Also during Fire Prevention Week, the department will join forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association to focus on this year’s theme, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire Can Happen Anywhere.” The theme reminds us that fire can happen anywhere and you need to be fire safe wherever you are. Look for places fire can start. Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm. Learn two ways out of each room. Come up with an escape plan, both at home and while traveling, and take notice of exits. A few moments of preparation can make a big difference.
