[ARCHIVED] City of Midland Notice to Public on Sanitary Sewer Overflow

Sewer grate

October 17, 2018  The City of Midland Wastewater Plant has notified the public of a sanitary sewer overflow event that occurred yesterday, October 16.

On Wednesday, October 16, a defect in a sanitary sewer force main located under S. Saginaw Road at Dartmouth Drive resulted in the discharge of approximately 9,000 gallons of untreated sewage into the City’s storm sewer system. Upon discovery, Wastewater Treatment Plant staff successfully completed a repair to fix the defect and prevent additional overflow.

In accordance with state law, the Michigan Department of Environment Quality and the Midland County Health Department were notified immediately upon discovery of the leak. Bacteriological sampling of the Tittabawassee River both upstream and downstream of Midland will be conducted as a precautionary measure.

For more information, please contact the City of Midland Wastewater Treatment Plant at 989-837-3500.
