[ARCHIVED] Date Night Performances at the Library

A book with a heart made from 2 pages

January 18, 2019 – The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library will be hosting a performance series over the next three months entitled ‘Library Date Night.’ This free series will feature a variety of dramatic and musical performances that are perfect for you and that special someone!

Husband-and-wife team Gary Mitchell and Mary Beth Quillin of Grand Rapids-based Gem Theatrics will present A.R. Gurney’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated play Love Letters on Thursday, February 14. The story follows the love affair of characters Andy and Melissa from second grade through college and as they grow apart and marry others. They maintain their relationship over the years and across the miles through the time-honored tradition of letter writing. Spanning the years 1937-1984, the story will resonate with those who remember the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, and the crazy ‘60s and ‘70s. The actors have won numerous awards for their dramatic performances and their interpretation of this Broadway play should touch the heart.

On Thursday, March 14, the series continues with a piano performance by Matthew Ball, the Boogie Woogie Kid. Ball’s upbeat, family-friendly performances have delighted audiences throughout the Midwest and Canada and he has been featured on NPR.

Husband-and-wife musicians Brian and Lynn Hefferan, also known as The Fabulous Heftones, will perform love songs, tunes, and ditties of the 1920s on Thursday, April 11. Playing ukulele, banjo, and an upright acoustic bass, this couple adds their beautiful voices to create a fun-filled musical treat for audiences of all ages.

All events in the ‘Library Date Night’ series are free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Library Auditorium.
