[ARCHIVED] Updates for City of Midland Parks and Recreation July 4th Fireworks

July 3, 2019 – Due to concerns regarding the location of a bald eagle nest along the Tittabawassee River, City of Midland Parks and Recreation has moved the launch location of the City’s fireworks display to the Old Redcoats Softball Complex.

To accommodate this change, St. Charles Street and Towsley Street will be closed from 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 to 6 a.m. on Friday, July 5. Crews will also close the Chippewa Trail between the Tridge and Whitman Drive, including the Chippewa Trail leg of the Tridge, on Thursday, July 4 from 6 a.m. to midnight.

This launch location change is not expected to impact the previously-suggested viewing area for the fireworks display, which can be viewed from the outside grounds of Dow Diamond, Founders Park, Whiting Overlook Park, and other downtown locations. All other activities for the Independence Day celebration on the lawn of Dow Diamond will continue as scheduled.

The event includes music from Atomic Radio, metro-Detroit’s premier pop cover band, beginning at 8 p.m. Vendors will be on-hand with food and beverage options. Fireworks are expected to begin around dusk.

For the safety and enjoyment of all spectators, personal fireworks like sparklers, firecrackers, and other items will be prohibited in City parks.  As an additional safety measure, please consider leaving your pets at home while you enjoy the fireworks event.  Police officers will patrol the parks during the fireworks spectacular.

For more information, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/july4th or contact the Midland Parks and Recreation Department at 989-837-6930 or via email at recreation@midland-mi.org.
