August 20, 2019 – The City of Midland announces that Police Chief Cliff Block will leave his position to become the new Chief of University Police for Saginaw Valley State University effective September 12, 2019.

Block joined the City of Midland Police force as a patrol officer in 1993. After moving through several internal positions, Block was promoted to his current role as Police Chief in 2012. Block is now eligible for full retirement from the City of Midland and looks forward to the new challenge moving from community policing to campus policing.

“During the past 26 years Midland has benefitted tremendously from Chief Block’s professionalism and leadership,” said City Manager Brad Kaye “We wish him every success in his new position and know that he will provide the highest level of professional service for SVSU, just as he has done throughout his career here in Midland.”

With Block’s pending departure, Deputy Chief Marc Goulette will assume the role of Interim Police Chief effective September 12.  The City has begun a full search process to identify its next Police Chief.

For more information, contact the City Manager’s Office at 989-837-3301.
