[ARCHIVED] Barstow Woods Park Reopens Following Tree Work

A tree stump cut down surrounded by green grass

August 30, 2019 – Barstow Woods Park has completely reopened to the public following the removal of over 320 dead and hazard ash trees and several acres of invasive buckthorn.

In the coming weeks, Parks and Recreation staff will perform additional work to clean up wood chips, logs, and other leftover debris as well as seed rye grass to control soil erosion in large cleared areas. Temporary park closures during the week of September 2 will be necessary to complete these tasks and will be announced when needed.

Following the completion of park clean-up, crews will conduct a fall tree planting in Barstow Woods to replace some of the removed trees. The City will also work with a contractor in Spring 2020 on a project to control re-sprouting buckthorn to protect newly-planted trees and encourage natural regeneration of native trees.

For additional information or questions, please contact the Parks and Recreation office at 989-837-6930 or recreation@midland-mi.org.
