November 22, 2019 – The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library continues its exploration of world conflict in its Fall Lecture Series “Hotspots of the World” on Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. with a lecture on the ongoing unrest in Venezuela.
Grand Valley State history professor Dr. Michael Huner will share his insights on the bitter power struggle currently rocking Venezuela. The South American country has been caught in a downward spiral for years, with growing political discontent further fueled by skyrocketing hyperinflation, food and medical shortages, and rising crime and mortality rates. As conditions in Venezuela worsen, it is important to understand not only the history and politics involved, but also to recognize the effects of the conflict on the citizens of Venezuela and the neighboring region.
This event is free and open to the public and will be held in the Auditorium of the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library.
