[ARCHIVED] City Seeks Public Input on CDBG Program Funds

Two people at a desk

January 3, 2020  Midland residents are invited to take part in the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program by sharing their input both in person and online in the coming weeks.

Each year, the City receives CDBG funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to support activities that provide decent housing, establish and maintain suitable living environments and expand economic opportunity in the city to primarily benefit low- and very low-income residents of the city.

Feedback can be shared online by visiting E-CityHall, the City’s online public engagement platform, at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/ecityhall and clicking on the “Community Needs Survey – CDBG Program” link.

In addition to the online survey, City residents can also share their thoughts at two upcoming public input sessions on Monday, January 6 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, January 7 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. in Conference Room B at Midland City Hall, 333 W. Ellsworth Street. Both sessions are open to the public. There is no formal presentation and residents are invited to drop in at any time.

Topics of discussion will include neighborhood focus, public facility improvements, housing rehabilitation, fair housing practices, affordable housing and senior housing facilities, and general CDBG-eligible needs in our community.

Residents are also able to share their feedback by contacting the City Planning and Community Development Department via mail at 333 W. Ellsworth Street, Midland, MI 48640 or via email at nwilson@midland-mi.org.

All feedback collected will be used by Planning and Community Development staff and provided to HUD to help develop the City’s CDBG Consolidated Plan and the Annual Action Plan to allocate CDBG funds in the best interest of the community.

The Community Development Block Grant program is an initiative of the US Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). For more information on this program, please visit www.hud.gov/program_offices/comm_planning/communitydevelopment/programs.
