[ARCHIVED] Absentee Ballots Available Monday for March Primary Election

January 31, 2020 – Absentee ballots for the March 10, 2020 Primary Election will be available to voters in the City of Midland beginning Monday, February 3. Voters may obtain an absentee ballot by submitting an application in person or by mail to the Midland City Clerk’s Office, 333 W. Ellsworth Street, Midland, MI 48640; by fax to 989-835-2717; or via email to A request for absentee ballot form can be found at

Please note that only the individual voter may be in possession of his or her unvoted ballot. Unvoted ballots will not be given to family members, friends, or any other individual besides the voter to whom it is addressed.

Voters who have already submitted an application to vote by absentee ballot to the City Clerk’s Office will receive their ballots by mail in the coming weeks. These ballots will be mailed and cannot be picked up in person.

Beginning this year, voters will receive their absentee ballots in a new style of envelope:  the former “Kraft brown” envelope has been replaced by a white envelope with a blue stripe on the left side labeled “Official Absent Voter Ballot”. The envelope will contain the ballot and another white envelope with a green stripe on the left side which should be signed and used to return the completed ballot back to the City Clerk’s Office.

Completed absentee ballots must be received by the City Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted. The City Clerk’s Office recommends allowing 2 weeks’ mailing time for returning voted ballots by mail. Return postage of 70 cents is required to mail back an absentee ballot.

Following the passage of Proposal 3, all registered Michigan voters are now eligible to vote by absentee ballot for any reason in any election. For questions or more information on how to obtain an absentee ballot, visit or contact the Midland City Clerk’s Office at 989-837-3310 or
