[ARCHIVED] Future Flood Preparedness Following 2020 Flooding

May 30, 2020 - Due to recent dam failures, the path, flow, rise, and forecasting of the Tittabawassee River have changed along with the ability to accurately predict when specific areas will flood.

Midland County Emergency Management in coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers and the National Weather Service are advising residents that live in the areas impacted by river flooding to expect and prepare for the river to rise and crest faster than it has in previous flooding events.

Because of the limited predictability in the forecasting of river levels, residents are encouraged to stay tuned to media outlets, social media and Midland 911 alerts through Nixle and follow directions from public safety and emergency management as quickly as possible during rain, storm and flooding events.

To sign up for Nixle alerts, go to www.midland911.org.

Residents can follow the Tittabawassee River levels and forecasts in the National Weather Service page at https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=dtx&gage=midm4. These hydrograph predictions may not reflect actual experiences moving forward. Midland County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will continue to monitor the river during events so that future adjustments can be made to predictions and forecasts.

More information and alerts can also be found on the USGS site athttps://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=04156000.
