[ARCHIVED] New Digital Tool Helps Residents Know What to Recycle

August 14, 2020 City of Midland residents now have access to a free digital search tool that provides information about what items can be recycled, thrown out, reused, donated, or disposed of at the City’s Sanitary Landfill.

Developed by Recycle Coach, the “What Goes Where?” program is a free mobile and web app that contains information on more than 10,000 household items and provides residents with specific instructions on how to dispose of each item. Information provided in the app will tell residents if an item is:

  • Recyclable via the City’s curbside collection services
  • Recyclable at a drop-off location
  • Disposed of during the City’s weekly refuse collection
  • Disposed of during the City’s monthly heavy item collection
  • Has special guidelines for curbside disposal
  • Able to be reused or donated; or
  • Accepted at the City of Midland Landfill

Residents can access the What Goes Where? Search tool at any time by downloading the free Recycle Coach mobile app from the Apple App Store and Google Play or by visiting www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/recycling.

The Recycle Coach mobile app also provides residents with the collection day reminders related to the City’s public services, including weekly refuse and yard waste collection, monthly recycling collection, and monthly heavy item and brush collection. Users can set timed reminders before their collection day, as well as find collection requirements and accepted materials lists for each collection type. This program is also available for computer users at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/publicservices and provides email reminders and/or the ability to print out your curbside collection schedule based on your address.

For more information on the City of Midland’s collection services and schedules, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/publicservices or call 989-837-6900.
