[ARCHIVED] Shake Your Mailbox to Prepare for Plowing Season

October 9, 2020 – The City of Midland Department of Public Services (DPS) wants to see you shake it: your mailbox, that is!

As the winter season rapidly approaches in mid-Michigan, DPS is gearing up to provide snow removal services to City streets. Due to the weight and force of snow and ice being plowed, mailbox posts that are worn, rotted, or placed too close to the roadway can be damaged or destroyed.

To ensure your mailbox’s safety, DPS recommends that residents shake their boxes and posts to see if they move, wobble, or fall over, as well as inspect posts for any damage or decay. Posts that move or have wood damage should be replaced to prevent issues during the winter plowing season.

If you need to install a new mailbox post, please refer to the United States Postal Service (USPS) requirements at https://www.usps.com/manage/mailboxes.htm..

For questions or additional information on the City of Midland’s snow removal service, contact DPS at 989-837-6900 or visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/snowremoval
