October 9, 2020 - On Monday, October 12, City of Midland Water Distribution will begin the annual fall water main flushing program in the townships it serves. Fire hydrants throughout Homer, Larkin, Midland, and Mills townships will be systematically opened to clean and refresh the drinking water distribution system.
Water main flushing will begin in Midland and Homer Townships south of Isabella Rd, then proceed north of Isabella Rd. Once Midland and Homer townships are complete, crews will then move north into Larkin Township, concluding with Mills Township. The entire process should be completed in approximately five weeks.
Water main flushing sometimes results in discolored water. While not harmful, tap water may appear orange in color for five to 15 minutes. Residents should avoid doing laundry while their water is discolored.
The City’s annual maintenance program helps ensure a high level of water quality by preventing corrosion and maintaining a proper disinfection residual. Information regarding daily flushing activities will be posted on the City’s website at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/flushing.
