February 12, 2021 – Downtown Midland invites people of all ages to embrace the season with some socially-distanced outdoor fun during Downtown Winter Fest. The event will take place on Saturday, February 27 from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and will include live music, games made out of ice, picnic tables with heaters to eat al fresco, and heating elements to help attendees warm up from the cold.
The event’s live music line-up includes performances by Shawn LaMere from 1 – 3 p.m. and Empty Pockets from 5 – 7 p.m. Both performances will be held inside the NU Idea Center on the corner of Main and Rodd streets, with room for up to 20 guests indoors at one time. An outdoor speaker system will be provided for other guests to enjoy the live from outside the building.
The ice games, made by Grand Rapids-based Ice Guru, will include a checkers board, a shuffleboard, and a set of cornhole boards set out on sidewalks throughout Downtown for public play. Visitors can stop by Pizza Sam’s to get the checkers pieces and Serendipity Road/Joyful Tantrum to pick up cornhole bags or shuffleboard pucks.
“We wanted a fun, but safe, way to get people out of the house this winter, and we thought bringing in Ice Guru’s ice games and live music would be a cool, unique way to do that,” said Downtown Events Coordinator Melissa Farley. “We hope people come out and enjoy winter in beautiful Downtown Midland.”
Picnic tables with nearby heaters will be available for visitors to dine outdoors. Additional heating elements will be available along sidewalks throughout Downtown to give patrons multiple ways to keep warm during the event.
