January 7, 2015 - A draft recreation plan for the City of Midland is now available for review at the Midland Parks and Recreation office (4811 N. Saginaw Road), the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library (1710 W. St. Andrews Road), or online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/recreation.
The plan, developed by the City of Midland’s Parks and Recreation Commission, evaluates existing recreation opportunities, reviews public opinion regarding parks and recreation, and proposes a five-year action plan for implementing proposed park improvements and new initiatives. Once approved, the plan will replace the existing document that has been in place since approved by Midland City Council in March 2010. The plan is a requirement of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) in order for the City to be eligible to apply for MDNR park and recreation grant funding programs.
The draft plan will be available for a 30-day public review process as required by the MDNR. Comments can be submitted in writing to Midland City Hall, c/o Karen Murphy, 333 W. Ellsworth St., Midland, MI 48640 or via email to recreation@midland-mi.org. The deadline for submitting comments is February 12, 2015.
A public hearing on the proposed plan will be held during the February 16 City Council meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
