[ARCHIVED] Annual Aerial Mosquito Abatement Begins Soon

April 9, 2021 – In the coming weeksMidland County Mosquito Control will take to the skies to begin its annual mosquito abatement program. Residents are advised that low-flying yellow crop duster airplanes will be treating areas of standing water to eliminate mosquito larvae. The active chemical used for mosquito control is safe for both humans and animals and only mosquito larvae are negatively impacted by treatment.

Residents are invited to watch the aircraft take off, land and load from the Midland Community Aviation Discovery Area (MCADA) at Jack Barstow Airport in Midland.

The MCADA is open to the public and offers visitors the ability to learn about all things aviation, including a comfortable viewing area for watching airplane takeoffs and landings and flight preparation activity, a real airplane on display, an aviation-themed educational area, and broadcasted radio communications from pilots available for public listening. There is also a covered pavilion with picnic tables and play areas for younger children.
