[ARCHIVED] Reserve Picnic Shelters at Midland Parks Beginning January 12

January 9, 2015 – Those interested in reserving a picnic shelter at select parks in Midland may do so beginning Monday, January 12, 2015.

On Monday, January 12, City of Midland residents only may reserve shelters, in person, from 7:30 a.m. until noon at the Midland Civic Arena, 405 Fast Ice Drive, located off Bay City Road between Rockwell Drive and Waldo Road. Doors open at 6:30 a.m. Beginning at 1 p.m., reservations are open to everyone either online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/recreation or through the Parks and Recreation Office by calling 989-837-6930 or in person at 4811 N. Saginaw Rd.

New in 2015, shelter identification has changed as noted in the chart below. The picnic table area located near Plymouth G (formerly B-2) in Plymouth Park has been eliminated and a play structure installed.

A reminder that reservation fees are non-refundable. They are used to help fund park maintenance and equipment. Also, from April 15 – June 30 all daytime reservations that end before 3 p.m. Monday – Friday are exempt from fees.

There are three shelters and five picnic areas in Emerson Park, three shelters and one picnic area in Plymouth Park, and one shelter each in Chippewassee Park, Barstow Woods Park, and Stratford Woods Park. Each shelter (except for Emerson Park D which has no electricity) and picnic area has an electrical outlet and are serviced by nearby outdoor grills.

The chalet is available for rent from April 15-November 15. The chalet interior and seating has been recently updated and new seating includes four 6' oak tables, four overlook bar areas and two high top tables that are standing room only. Capacity of the chalet is 49 people. There is a fire pit and one double jumbo grill at the north end of the building.
