An appeal before the March 2014 Board of Review is required for further right of appeal to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. An appeal to the Tribunal will only be accepted if an appeal is first made to the local Board of Review. Beginning in 2007, commercial, industrial, developmental, and utility property may be appealed directly to the Tribunal without protest before the Board of Review, as provided for by P.A. 174 of 2006.
An appeal may be made in person or by letter, if received by the board no later than March 14, 2014. Residents who would like to make an appointment to speak with the Board or have questions about the 2014 Board of Review process may contact the City Assessor’s Office at 837-3334.
New this year: P.A. 402 of 2012 provides business personal property owners with an assessment of $40,000 or less an exemption from personal property taxes, if they qualify according to the act. At this time, those property owners must file a form 5076 and make an appeal to the March Board of Review for the exemption.
