March 6, 2015 – Although snow is still on the ground the City of Midland has begun mailing yard waste bin renewal notices to residents.
Yard waste collection will begin on Monday, April 6. Yard waste is collected curbside on your regular weekly refuse collection day. Yard waste must be placed in Kraft paper compost bags or blue, 95-gallon yard waste bins before being set at the curb. Acceptable materials include grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and small twigs and branches.
The spring and fall “Three Free” program for 2015 and beyond is changing. In the past, the dates of the spring and fall “Three Free” were weather dependent and varied from year-to-year. To make it easier for residents to plan yard cleanup, the City of Midland will now offer free yard waste collection as follows:
• Spring Free – Yard waste collection will begin each year on the first Monday in April. Stickers will not be required on bags and bins until the first Monday in May.
• Fall Free – Free yard waste collection will begin on the first Monday in October and remain free through the balance of the fall leaf collection season.
For 2015, Spring Free will begin on Monday, April 6 and last until Friday, May 1. Yard waste stickers will be required for bags and bins beginning Monday, May 4.
For 2015, Fall Free will begin on Monday, October 5. Yard waste collection stickers for bags and bins will not be required for the remainder of the fall leaf collection season.
Please note that yard waste bag stickers and annual bin stickers have increased:
• Yard waste bag stickers – $.40 per bag
• Yard waste bin annual sticker – $40.00
• Additional yard waste bin annual sticker – $17.00 for each additional bin at the same address
