[ARCHIVED] City Receives Grants for Washington Woods Chiller Replacement

September 29, 2021 – The City of Midland has announced its receipt of $50,000 in grant funds – $10,000 from the Hemlock Semiconductor Community and Regional Empowerment (CARE) Fund and $40,000 from the Midland Area Community Foundation Community Investment Fund – to be used for replacement of the east side chiller at Washington Woods senior living community. Both grants were awarded under the ‘Caring for our People’ focus area.

The 30-plus year old chiller, which helps cool the building during warm weather, was recently tagged for emergency replacement after issues arose ahead of its planned replacement schedule.

“The City is incredibly grateful for the support of the Midland Area Community Foundation and Hemlock Semiconductor to ensure this vital piece of equipment is replaced,” said City Manager Brad Kaye. “Washington Wood serves a vulnerable population that can be greatly impacted by excessive heat, and these funds will help immensely in ensuring that our residents’ home remains comfortable and safe for years to come.”

Washington Woods is an independent senior living community for residents ages 55 and older owned and operated by the City of Midland. For more information on the City’s senior housing options, please visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/seniorhousing
