October 5, 2021 – As the outdoor entertainment season comes to a close in Downtown Midland, the Downtown Development Authority asks residents and visitors to weigh in on their experiences in the Main Street Pedestrian Plazas and The Commons social district through a new survey on E-CityHall.
Following their popular debut in 2020, the Downtown Midland Pedestrian Plazas returned in 2021 as two pedestrian-only blocks of Main Street from Ashman Street to Rodd Street to provide expanded space for outdoor dining, shopping, and entertainment. In 2021, Downtown Midland added The Commons: A space in which alcoholic beverages could be purchased from participating businesses and consumed outdoors in a defined “common” area.
At this time, the Pedestrian Plazas on Main Street remain closed to vehicle traffic through October 31, 2021, while The Commons will be continued through January 6, 2022 with the possibility of an extended end date or a return later in 2022.
Downtown visitors are encouraged to relay their experiences in the Pedestrian Plazas and The Commons social district this year and provide suggestions to improve these amenities in 2022. The survey should about 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/pedplazas2021.
Once completed, the results of the survey will be shared with the Downtown Development Authority, Midland Downtown Business Association, Midland City Council, City staff, and the general public.
Residents who do not have internet access or cannot complete the survey online may submit feedback and suggestions to Community Affairs Director Selina Tisdale at 989-837-3304 or stisdale@midland-mi.org.
