[ARCHIVED] Celebrate National Friends of Libraries Week at the Library

October 22, 2021 – The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library will celebrate its Friends of the Library group as part of the 16th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week October 17 – 23, 2021.

The Friends of the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library was established in 1973 and currently has over 150 community members that contribute annually to the Friends. Many of those contributors actively volunteer their time to assist with vital fundraising efforts, such as its annual used book sales and the ReTale Market. A special display has been set up in the Library lobby to thank the Friends for their essential contributions to the Library and the community.

“Friends of the Library donations are invaluable to the Library,” said Library Director Miriam Andrus. “Friends donations allow the Library to continue providing amazing services while also providing a financial safety net for innovating new ideas. When the Library staff plan new programs, we know that the Friends of the Library are available should we develop a new service in which there are no funds. Having the Friends of the Library at Grace A. Dow Memorial Library allows staff to create new programs in a way many libraries around the state are unable to do. The Library expresses a sincere thank you to the Friends volunteers for all they do for the Library and the community!”

Please visit gadml.org/friends to learn more about the Friends and to find out how to become a member.

National Friends of Libraries Week is coordinated by United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate, and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library trustees, advocates, friends, and foundations into a partnership that creates a powerful force for libraries in the 21st century. The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library is located at 1710 W. St. Andrews Rd and is a service of the City of Midland. For more information or to learn more about the Library, visit www.gadml.org.
