[ARCHIVED] Apply now for the 2022 Citizens Academy

November 5, 2021 – If you’ve ever wondered how your tax dollars are put to use or what it takes to run a city, then Midland’s Citizens Academy is perfect for you!

The City of Midland is currently accepting applications for its award-winning annual Citizens Academy, a free 10-week course designed to give residents an up-close and personal look at how local government functions and helps shape our community.

During the academy, participants attend weekly 2-hour sessions that explore different functional areas of City government and learn about how their roles impact daily life for residents of Midland. For many sessions, participants will also receive a “behind-the-scenes” tour of the location they visit, including the Law Enforcement Center, Midland County Jail, the Midland Water Treatment Plant, and more.

Sessions for the 2021 academy will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. from January 12 to March 9, 2022 and will be held at various municipal facilities. Midland residency is not required to participate; however, space is limited, so if there are more applicants than available spaces, first preference will be given to residents within the City.

Applications for the 2021 Citizens Academy will be accepted through Friday, December 10 at 5 p.m. and can be found online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/citizensacademy. Hard copies can be picked up at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library reference desk or the City Hall information desk. Participants selected for the 2022 academy will be notified by December 23, 2021.

For questions or further information about the academy, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/citizensacademy or contact Community Affairs at
 989-837-3307.
