December 3, 2021 – Residents still have one more week to apply for the City of Midland’s 2022 Citizens Academy – a free, 10-week course that gives citizens an up-close and personal look at how local government works. Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 10 at 5 p.m.

The academy consists of 10 two-hour sessions held at various City and County facilities throughout Midland. The 2022 Citizens Academy will take place each consecutive Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. from January 12 to March 16, 2022.

Through class presentations and behind-the-scenes facility tours, each session will demonstrate the role and responsibility of the City of Midland’s various departments and the services they provide to the community. Participants will also meet the people who serve them every day and gain a better understanding of the role Midland City government plays in the quality of life that Midlanders enjoy. Participants will also hear from other organizations that help shape our community, including Midland County government and the Midland County Historical Society.

Citizens may fill out an online application at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/citizensacademy or a hard copy application, which can be found at the information desk in City Hall or the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library reference desk. Participants selected for the 2022 academy will be notified by December 17, 2021.

Midland residency is not required to be considered for the academy; however, if there are more applicants than available spaces, first preference will be given to those living in the City.

For questions or further information about the academy, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/citizensacademy or call at 989-837-3307.
