August 19, 2022 – Beginning Monday, August 22, visitors to the Center City district will see construction activity as crews begin work on the S. Saginaw Road streetscape construction project.
The $3.7 million project will improve multimodal access, aesthetics, and safety in the corridor along S. Saginaw Road from Dartmouth Drive to Patrick Road. Improvements include the construction of eight-foot wide pathways on both sides of the roadway, new street lighting for pedestrians and vehicles, and new street trees and horticulture enhancements for the corridor.
Intermittent sidewalk and lane closures on S. Saginaw Road are anticipated in the construction zone while the project is underway; however, significant traffic impacts are not expected. The project is anticipated to be completed in November 2022.
The City of Midland and Center City Authority recognize the following businesses, organizations, and individuals who have generously provided funding to make this project a reality: Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, Dow Company Foundation, Charles J. Strosacker Foundation, City of Midland Road Millage funding, Midland Area Community Foundation, Dow Employee Credit Union, Huntington Bank, Isabella Bank, Mary C. Currie, and Horizon Bank.
The S. Saginaw Road streetscape construction is the first phase of the Center City Redevelopment Plan, which the Midland City Council adopted in 2019.
