October 7, 2022 – Residents can now request public water and sewer service and paving of gravel streets in City of Midland locations that currently do not have these amenities.
If there is a public improvement project of this nature that should be considered, Midland residents may submit a written request detailing the project to the City of Midland Engineering Department, 333 W. Ellsworth, Midland, MI 48640. Requests must be postmarked on or before November 1, 2022.
Once received, the Engineering Department estimates the cost for each requested project and prioritizes the list according to project feasibility and available funding. The list is then presented to Midland City Council at a regular meeting in December 2022 or January 2023. City Council will review which project(s) receive highest priority and determines if funding will be allocated for those projects in a future fiscal year.
The City’s special assessment process is used to finance these improvements. In this process, adjacent property owners that benefit from the improvement primarily pay the cost of the project. The City may also participate in project costs for certain items depending on the type of project.
Project requests that require significant City participation will not be considered unless the developer proposes to finance the project initially by participating in the advance payment process.
