October 21, 2022 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Chief Building Official Stephen (Steve) Taglauer has been named the 2022 Code Official of the Year by the Code Officials Conference of Michigan (COCM).
Taglauer received the honor in September during the 2022 COCM Fall Conference in Bellaire, Michigan.
Taglauer joined the City of Midland Building Department in January 2005 and was promoted to chief building official in 2018. Previously, he worked in a supervisory role at Cintas Corporation and has also owned and operated his own construction company, specializing in new home construction; window, door, and siding installation; and exterior deck construction. He is the current president of the Code Officials Board of Directors and has been involved with the Midland Home Builders Association and Midland Public Schools Building Trades program.
“Steve’s extensive professional knowledge and his passion for the building and code enforcement profession make him an incredibly deserving recipient of this honor,” says Director Planning and Community Development Jacob Kain. “From assisting flood victims with rebuilding plans, to responsibly enforcing City ordinances and building codes, to helping grow the next generation of builders, his impact has made our community a safe and attractive place to live and develop.”
The COCM Code Official of the Year is awarded to an individual in recognition of their outstanding contribution of the Code Officials Conference of Michigan as an organization, the code enforcement profession in the State of Michigan, and their dedication to their representative unit of government and to the community.
