[ARCHIVED] National Peace Officers Day to be Recognized Friday

May 13, 2015 – Citizens are invited to attend a Friday, May 15 ceremony honoring peace officers currently serving their communities and those who lost their lives while safeguarding the public.

The ceremony is being held in conjunction with Peace Officers Memorial Day, a national day of recognition of law enforcement officials. The event starts at 12 p.m. at the Midland Law Enforcement Center.

“Peace officers exemplify dedication and selflessness,” said Midland Police Chief Cliff Block. “The men and women who currently serve and those who have gone before us deserve our gratitude for preserving the peace and protecting our fellow citizens.”

The event will include Chief Block and Midland County Sheriff Scott Stephenson as speakers, plus members of the local Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team, Search and Rescue Dive team, canine unit, and Midland Police Department Honor Guard. Specialty vehicles and equipment utilized in law enforcement will also be on hand for public viewing.

The Midland Law Enforcement Center is located at 2727 Rodd Street, Midland, Mich. For further information, contact the Midland Police Department at 989-631-5716.
