[ARCHIVED] Midland Fire Department Announces Promotions

January 13, 2023 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that several members of the Midland Fire Department (MFD) were recently promoted to battalion chief and lieutenant.

Mark Laux

Battalion Chief Mark Laux

Mark Laux was promoted to battalion chief in December 2022. BC Laux joined MFD as a firefighter in 2006 and was promoted to fire truck operator in 2013 and lieutenant in 2017. Laux also leads MFD’s Technical Rescue Team, is a member of the Michigan Region 3 Regional Response Team, and assisted with disaster rescue efforts during Hurricane Dorian through Michigan Task Force 1. Prior to the City, Laux worked as a public safety educator, fire inspector, and fire investigator for the Saginaw Township Fire Department from 2002 – 2006. He holds an associate’s degree in fire science from Delta College. He was named the Carl & Esther Gerstacker Firefighter of the Year in 2013.

Bob Hoffman was promoted to lieutenant in November 2022. Lt. Hoffman joined MFD as a firefighter in 2010. He has assisted with disaster rescue efforts during Hurricane Dorian and Hurricane Ida through Michigan Task Force 1. Prior to the City, Hoffman worked as a firefighter for the Cadillac Fire Department from 2006 – 2010. He received certifications in firefighting and emergency medical technician (EMT) from Baker College.

Jim Daveluy was promoted to lieutenant in December 2022. Lt. Daveluy joined MFD as a firefighter in 2014 and was promoted to fire truck operator in 2020.  Prior to the City, he served as a firefighter and paramedic for the Memphis (TN) Fire Department from 2007 – 2013. Daveluy is a graduate of the Macomb Community College Fire Academy and received his paramedic training from Waterford EMS Academy. He was named the Carl & Esther Gerstacker Firefighter of the Year in 2018. 

“Each of these dedicated public servants plays a vital role in making Midland a safe community for our residents and visitors,” said Midland Fire Department Chief Joshua Mosher. “We are grateful for their commitment to the City of Midland and the Midland Fire Department and look forward to their continued exemplary service in these new roles.”
